How did this Allergy Cards website come about?  Our story:

My partner has a dairy allergy.  We were heading off on a three month holiday to foreign parts. 

 At home our pantry and fridge are stocked with foods he can safely eat. In local cafes and restaurants Bevan confidently selects safe foods or asks the kitchen to adjust a meal for him. We did not want to be daunted by the thought of communicating our needs in a country where we did not know the language.

But once we were off for parts unknown, the situation was going to definitely change. How could we be sure that our dietary needs could be met?  

This is where “Allergy Cards” came in. With the help of friends who had come to New Zealand from all over Europe we had our food needs translated into the seven languages we would be dealing with while away. 

It made a huge difference.  Apart from a very rare moment of confusion, food making Bevan ill became a non-issue!
